Commander John F. Shipway Commander Shipway graduated from the University of Louisville in June 1965 and holds a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He attended basic officer Nuclear Power School at Bambridge, Maryland, the Nuclear Power Training
Unit at West Milton, New York, and Naval Submarine School at New London, Connecticut. Following completion of these schools, Commander Shipway reported to the USS Cubera (SS347) where he served as Communicator. He subsequently served onboard the USS Von Steuben (SSBN632) as the Damage Control Assistant and Main Propulsion Assistant. He also served onboard both the NR-l (the Navy's nuclear powered deep diving submersible) and the USS Swordfish (SSN579) as the Executive Officer. Most recently,
Commander Shipway served at the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., in the MK48 Torpedo Project Office. Commander Shipway relieved as Commanding Officer, USS Los Angeles (SSN-688) on 18 February 1981. Source: Welcome Aboard pamphlet, circa 1981 |
