The New Diving Officer by The Bilge Duck

It's a tricky process keeping the boat at just the right level beneath the sea so that only that parts you want to stick out, do. It's really a team effort, but the guy that's in the hot seat is the diving officer. He's the one the OOD comes to when the boat drops below periscope depth or worse broaches.

The second in a series of five Son-O-Midwatch Funnies, this cartoon depicts the challenge that new diving officers have in keeping the boat at periscope depth in anything other than glassy seas. I seem to recall a broach or two during WestPac '81.
