Diego Garcia was a tiny dot in a big ocean; about as remote a spot as you can imagine. We even missed it the first time we went looking for it! Once we got to the atoll there was not much there. Life on the island during our visit in 1979
was only a little more than what was depicted in this cartoon. Despite the cartoons, I actually came to like our visits to Diego Garcia in 1979. The sunsets were like no other I had ever seen or have seen since. The night sky was filled to overflowing with brilliantly lit stars. I can see where those on the island for the one year tour would go a little island happy, but for our brief visits it was nice break. | |
