First hull ring is laid during keel laying ceremony
The first hull ring of USS Los Angeles (SSN-688) is laid in place at Newport News Shipbuilding. The first hull ring serves as the "keel" in this traditional Naval ceremony known as the Keel Laying. The "keel plate" is later authenticated by using a hammer and steel punch.
